A soft French-style omelet with a buttery aroma and a gooey cheese filling, easily prepared using an electric skillet.
Think making a Soft Cheese Omelet (Electric Skillet) is difficult? Many believe a French omelet, with its moist and smooth interior, requires expensive non-stick pans or precise gas stoves. In reality, you can create a perfect Soft Cheese Omelet (Electric Skillet) using a basic electric skillet in your dorm or condo. The key lies in controlling the heat so it doesn't get too high, using real butter for aroma, and gently stirring the eggs to create small, soft curds. When the eggs start to set but remain glossy on top, it's the golden moment to add your favorite grated cheese—be it cheddar, mozzarella, or even ham and mushrooms. The residual heat melts the cheese perfectly. Folding it requires a bit of patience, but the result is impressive. This omelet is a high-protein, cafe-quality breakfast. Served with toast or a fresh salad, it's the perfect start to your day.
Ingredients
- 3 count Eggs
- 1 tbsp Plain Milk
- 1 tbsp Unsalted Butter
- 0.25 tsp Salt
- 0.25 tsp Ground Black Pepper
- 30 g Grated Cheese (such as Cheddar or Mozzarella) (about 2 tbsp)
Instructions
- 1Crack the eggs into a bowl, add milk, salt, and black pepper. Beat with a fork until smooth but not frothy (about 1 minute).
- 2Turn on the electric skillet to medium-low heat. Wait until the skillet starts to warm up (about 1-2 minutes).
- 3Add unsalted butter to the skillet. Swirl it around or use a spatula to coat the surface. Wait until the butter melts and starts to bubble slightly; do not let it burn (about 30 seconds).
- 4Pour the beaten eggs into the skillet. Quickly and gently stir the eggs with a rubber spatula, moving from the edges toward the center to ensure even cooking (about 1 minute).
- 5When the eggs begin to set into curds but the surface still looks moist and slightly runny, stop stirring and spread the eggs into an even layer (about 30 seconds).
- 6Sprinkle the grated cheese over one half of the omelet (about 15 seconds).
- 7Use the rubber spatula to gently fold the other half over the grated cheese into a half-moon shape, or roll it into a cylinder (about 30 seconds).
- 8Turn off the electric skillet. Transfer the omelet to a plate and serve immediately while hot.
Chef's Tips
- •If the electric skillet gets too hot while stirring the eggs, unplug it or reduce the heat immediately to prevent the eggs from becoming tough.
- •A silicone spatula makes it much easier to lift the edges and fold the omelet than a stiff turner.
- •Feel free to add diced ham or sautéed onions along with the cheese as desired.
