Flaky puff pastry squares filled with a sweet vanilla cream cheese and topped with fresh strawberries and blueberries.
If you are craving a bakery-quality sweet treat without spending hours in the kitchen, this Mixed Berry & Cream Cheese Danish is the perfect solution. Using store-bought puff pastry is the ultimate baking cheat code, allowing you to achieve incredibly flaky, buttery layers in a fraction of the time. This Mixed Berry & Cream Cheese Danish pairs a rich, sweetened cream cheese filling with the bright, natural tartness of fresh strawberries and blueberries. The vanilla powder adds a gorgeous aromatic depth to the cheese, while a quick brush of honey right as they come out of the oven gives the fruit a stunning, professional glossy finish. Not only is this a fantastic way to use up fresh berries before they go bad, but it also makes for a breathtaking weekend breakfast, a lovely afternoon tea companion, or a quick dessert. The contrast between the warm, crisp pastry and the luscious, molten cream cheese center is simply irresistible. Enjoy making this delightful Mixed Berry & Cream Cheese Danish!
Ingredients
- 1 sheet Puff Pastry (about 250g)
- 115 g Cream Cheese (about 1/2 cup)
- 3 tbsp Icing Sugar
- 0.5 tsp Vanilla Powder
- 150 g Strawberry (about 1 cup sliced)
- 75 g Blueberry (about 1/2 cup)
- 1 whole Egg (beaten)
- 1 tbsp Honey
Instructions
- 1Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- 2Thaw the puff pastry according to package instructions, then roll it out slightly and cut it into 4 equal squares.
- 3Using a knife, gently score a smaller square inside each pastry square, leaving about a 1.5cm border. Do not cut all the way through the dough; this allows the edges to puff up.
- 4In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, icing sugar, and vanilla powder until completely smooth.
- 5Spread a generous spoonful of the cream cheese mixture inside the inner scored square of each pastry.
- 6Arrange the sliced strawberries and whole blueberries nicely on top of the cream cheese filling.
- 7Brush the exposed borders of the pastry lightly with the beaten egg to help it turn golden brown in the oven.
- 8Bake for 15-18 minutes until the pastry is puffed and deeply golden.
- 9Remove from the oven and immediately brush the warm fruit with a little honey to give it a beautiful glossy shine. Let cool slightly before serving.
Chef's Tips
- •Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature so it mixes smoothly without any lumps.
- •For extra flavor, you can add a tiny pinch of lemon salt to the cream cheese mixture to brighten it up.
- •Do not overfill the pastry with fruit, or the juices might spill over and make the bottom soggy.
