An express and proven meat appetizer. Crispy, golden puff pastry rolls with small sausages hidden inside are a real hit at any house party.
Looking for an idea for another sensational and simple snack? Sausage rolls in puff pastry are an absolute classic that always disappears from the table first. This proven party meat appetizer is not only incredibly delicious but also trivially simple to prepare. When planning a menu for a house party, birthday, or game night, puff pastry sausages are a bullseye because both adults and children love them. The key to success in this recipe is the crispy, buttery pastry that contrasts perfectly with the juicy interior. We spread a bit of tangy mustard on the inside of the pastry, giving the whole thing a pleasant, slightly spicy character. Then just wrap the meat, brush the top with a beaten egg, and sprinkle with seeds. This makes the party meat appetizer take on a professional, appetizing look, just like straight from the best bakery. This recipe for puff pastry sausage rolls is also wonderful because it can be prepared well in advance. Simply roll the snacks and store them in the fridge, then pop them in the oven just before guests arrive. Hot snacks smelling of butter and roasting will instantly fill the house with a wonderful aroma. Serve them with your favorite sauces – classic ketchup, garlic sauce, or honey mustard dip – and you'll find they will dominate your menu for a long time. Enjoy the taste and perfectly crispy texture!
Ingredients
- 300 g Puff pastry (1 sheet)
- 250 g Mini sausages (cocktail) (about 15-20 pieces)
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 Egg
- 1 tbsp Sesame seeds
Instructions
- 1Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Unroll the puff pastry on a flat surface.
- 2Evenly spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard over the surface of the puff pastry.
- 3Cut the pastry lengthwise and crosswise into small rectangles, sized to fit the mini sausages.
- 4Place one sausage on each piece of pastry and roll it up into a neat roll, pressing the edges lightly so they don't unroll.
- 5Arrange the prepared rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, keeping small gaps between them. In a small bowl, beat the egg with a fork.
- 6Using a brush, coat the top of each roll with the beaten egg, then sprinkle generously with sesame seeds.
- 7Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, until the rolls rise and the pastry becomes distinctively golden and crispy.
Chef's Tips
- •You can prepare the rolls a few hours earlier and keep them in the fridge until the guests arrive. Bake them just before serving so they are perfectly crispy.
- •Instead of sesame, you can use nigella seeds, poppy seeds, or grated hard cheese, e.g., Parmesan.
- •Serve warm or at room temperature with your favorite sauces, such as ketchup, BBQ sauce, or garlic sauce.
