Quick and flaky pastries made with puff pastry dough, featuring two distinct fillings: a classic seasoned ground meat and a rich, creamy chicken.
Puff Pastry Pies with Chicken and Meat Fillings are among the most delicious pastries you can serve, whether as a snack or a special side dish for gatherings. Using ready-made puff pastry dough saves a lot of time and effort while providing an irresistibly flaky and crispy texture. In this recipe, we offer two ways to prepare the filling simultaneously: a classic savory ground meat filling and a creamy chicken filling that perfectly suits those who love rich, cheesy white sauces. These Puff Pastry Pies with Chicken and Meat Fillings are highly versatile, allowing you to add vegetables or change the cheese type as desired. Adding a bit of cream cheese to the chicken provides a tender texture that harmonizes beautifully with the crispy dough layers, while the ground meat offers a deep, traditional flavor. When preparing Puff Pastry Pies with Chicken and Meat Fillings, it's important to let the dough thaw slightly at room temperature so it's easy to fold without breaking. Brushing the tops with an egg wash gives them a golden, appetizing shine. Enjoy making these quick and innovative pastries; they are the perfect choice for a light dinner or elegant hospitality.
Ingredients
- 400 g Puff pastry dough
- 200 g Ground meat
- 200 g Chicken breast (minced or finely diced)
- 1 count Onion (finely chopped) (1 medium onion)
- 2 cloves Garlic (crushed)
- 2 tbsp Cream cheese (for chicken)
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 2 tbsp Olive oil
- 1 count Egg (beaten for brushing)
- 1 tsp Salt and black pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- 1Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- 2In a skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil and sauté the onion and garlic until softened, then divide the mixture into two equal parts.
- 3In the same skillet, place the first part of the onion mixture and add the ground meat. Stir until fully cooked and browned, then season with salt and black pepper and remove from heat.
- 4In another skillet or after cleaning the first one, place the second part of the onion mixture and add the chicken pieces. Stir until cooked, then add the paprika, salt, black pepper, and cream cheese to create a rich white filling.
- 5Cut the puff pastry dough into equal-sized squares.
- 6Place a spoonful of the meat filling in the center of some squares, and the chicken filling in the others.
- 7Fold the edges of the dough to form triangles or rectangles, and press the edges firmly with a fork to seal.
- 8Arrange the pies on a baking sheet and brush the tops with the beaten egg to give them a golden color.
- 9Bake the pies in the oven for 15-20 minutes until they puff up and become golden and crispy.
Chef's Tips
- •You can add a sprinkle of sesame seeds or nigella seeds on top of the pies before baking for extra flavor and a festive look.
- •Ensure the fillings are completely cool before placing them inside the dough to prevent the butter in the puff pastry from melting prematurely.
