A fresh, crunchy, and incredibly delicious salad with juicy vegetables, olives, and traditional feta cheese.
Looking for the perfect recipe for a light and refreshing dish? This Classic Greek Salad is exactly what you need. On hot summer days or as a stylish addition to a hearty dinner, the Classic Greek Salad will always be an absolute hit on your table. The secret to its amazing taste lies in fresh, high-quality ingredients. Crunchy cucumbers, juicy ripe tomatoes, tangy red onion, and of course, rich salty Kalamata olives create a unique harmony of textures and aromas. Don't forget about real feta cheese, which is traditionally served as a large whole piece right on top of the chopped vegetables, preserving its texture.
It is crucial to use high-quality extra virgin olive oil—it's what brings all the flavors together, making the Classic Greek Salad not just an ordinary appetizer, but a true culinary masterpiece. A generous pinch of aromatic dried oregano adds that recognizable Mediterranean note, transporting you straight to Greece. This recipe is so simple and fast that it requires absolutely no culinary skills, yet it looks as if it were just served in an authentic tavern on the shores of the warm Aegean Sea. Be sure to try making this masterpiece at home and enjoy every bit of summer!
Ingredients
- 300 g Tomatoes (3 medium tomatoes)
- 200 g Cucumber (1 large cucumber)
- 50 g Red onion (half of a small onion)
- 50 g Kalamata olives (about 15 olives)
- 100 g Feta cheese (1 large block)
- 3 tbsp Olive oil
- 1 tsp Dried oregano
- 0.5 tsp Salt
Instructions
- 1Coarsely chop the tomatoes and cucumber, then place them in a large bowl.
- 2Slice the red onion into thin half-moons and add to the other vegetables.
- 3Add the Kalamata olives to the salad.
- 4Drizzle the vegetables with high-quality olive oil, add dried oregano and salt. Toss gently.
- 5Place a whole block of feta cheese on top (or break it into large chunks) and serve immediately.
Chef's Tips
- •Authentic Greek salad is not tossed with the cheese before serving — the feta is placed on top as a whole block.
- •If the onion is too sharp, soak the slices in ice water for 10 minutes before adding them to the salad.
