Jeera Masala Rice is a dish that perfectly combines simplicity and flavor. This recipe is very popular in Indian households because it is easy to make and pairs wonderfully with any dal or curry. The specialty of this Jeera Masala Rice is the aroma of the cumin and garam masala used in it. When cumin is tempered in oil or ghee, its earthy fragrance spreads throughout the house. Garam masala gives this dish a slight warmth and deep flavor, transforming plain rice into a royal dish. For making Jeera Masala Rice, the quality of rice and the correct water ratio are very important. Soaking them and cooking on low heat is the best way to get fluffy rice. This dish is not only suitable for lunch but can also be prepared quickly for dinner. You can serve it with raita, salad, or your favorite gravy-based vegetable. Every grain of this Jeera Masala Rice is full of spice flavors, making it a favorite for both children and adults. If you want to make something special with little effort, this recipe is perfect for you.
Ingredients
- 190 g Basmati rice (approx. 1 cup)
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 0.5 tsp Garam masala
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tbsp Oil or ghee
- 475 ml Water (approx. 2 cups)
Instructions
- 1First, wash the rice with clean water 2-3 times until the water runs clear. Soak it in enough water for 20 minutes and then drain.
- 2Heat oil or ghee in a pot. When it is medium hot, add cumin seeds.
- 3As soon as the cumin starts to crackle and release its aroma, add the drained rice.
- 4Saute the rice in the oil gently for 1-2 minutes so that every grain is coated with fat. This helps keep the rice fluffy.
- 5Now add 2 cups of water, salt, and garam masala. Mix well.
- 6Increase the heat and let the water come to a boil.
- 7After it boils, turn the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and let the rice cook for 10-12 minutes until all the water is absorbed.
- 8Turn off the heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes to steam.
- 9Finally, gently fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
Chef's Tips
- •Use ghee instead of oil for the best flavor.
- •Soaking the rice is very important; it makes the grains long and soft.
- •Do not stir frequently while cooking, otherwise the rice grains may break.
