A high-protein, low-carb meal featuring savory minced meat and crumbled tofu tossed in an umami-rich sauce, served inside crisp lettuce cups.
If you are looking for the ultimate healthy, low-calorie, and high-protein meal, these Spicy Minced Meat & Tofu Lettuce Wraps are exactly what you need. Finding a balance between a meal that keeps you full and one that fits into a low-calorie or low-carb lifestyle can be challenging, but this recipe effortlessly checks all the boxes. By combining savory, rich meat with crumbled tofu, you instantly double the volume and the protein of the dish while keeping the fat and calories remarkably low. The tofu acts like a magical flavor sponge, soaking up all the deep, umami notes from the soy sauce, the subtle sweetness of the oyster sauce, and the warming kick of the ginger and garlic powders.
Serving this vibrant mixture inside crisp, fresh lettuce leaves instead of traditional carb-heavy tortillas or buns is the secret to making these Spicy Minced Meat & Tofu Lettuce Wraps so light and refreshing. The cold, crunchy snap of the lettuce perfectly contrasts the piping hot, savory filling, creating an addictive texture combination that you will want to eat every single day. Plus, the addition of fresh bell peppers and red chili adds a beautiful pop of color and a boost of vitamin C, making this meal as nutritious as it is delicious. Whether you need a lightning-fast post-workout meal or a light dinner that won't weigh you down, these Spicy Minced Meat & Tofu Lettuce Wraps come together in just minutes in a single pan.
Ingredients
- 150 g Minced Meat (about 1 cup loosely packed)
- 100 g Tofu (about 1/2 block)
- 4 leaves Lettuce
- 50 g Bell Peppers (about 1/2 cup diced)
- 1 whole Red Chili (finely sliced)
- 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 0.5 tsp Ginger Powder
- 1 tsp Oil
Instructions
- 1Wash and dry the lettuce leaves carefully so they stay whole and crisp for wrapping.
- 2Drain the tofu and gently crumble it with your hands into small pebble-sized pieces.
- 3Heat the oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- 4Add the minced meat to the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, breaking it apart until it is browned.
- 5Stir the crumbled tofu, diced bell peppers, and sliced red chili into the skillet and cook for another 2 minutes.
- 6Pour the soy sauce and oyster sauce into the pan, then sprinkle in the garlic powder and ginger powder.
- 7Toss everything together continuously for 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce coats the meat and tofu evenly and the liquid has mostly absorbed.
- 8Remove from the heat and spoon the warm filling generously into the center of the fresh lettuce leaves.
Chef's Tips
- •Crumbling the tofu to the same size as the minced meat helps it blend perfectly and absorb all the sauces.
- •If you want extra crunch, toss in a handful of your crushed cashews at the very end.
- •Make sure your pan is quite hot before adding the sauces so they caramelize onto the meat rather than just boiling it.
