A refreshing, energizing, and incredibly simple to prepare iced coffee, perfect for warm summer days.
When hot days arrive, there is nothing better than homemade, refreshing iced coffee. This easy-to-prepare drink is an absolute classic that provides not only a solid dose of caffeine but also incredible cooling. In many cafes, iced coffee is served with many high-calorie toppings and whipped cream, but by preparing it yourself, you gain full control over its composition, quality, and sweetness level. The basis is, of course, good quality beans – freshly brewed espresso that has been naturally cooled works best, although a good quality instant coffee can be used for an express version. By using the right proportions of milk and plenty of ice, your homemade iced coffee will have a velvety, delicate flavor that will satisfy every caffeine lover. Iced coffee is also a great base for culinary experiments. You can add your favorite caramel syrup, a bit of vanilla extract, or even a pinch of cinnamon to give it a unique character. If you prefer a plant-based diet, oat or almond milk works fantastically here, further enhancing the nutty notes of the drink. On hot summer afternoons, such a classic iced coffee with ice is a real salvation that instantly quenches thirst and adds positive energy for the rest of the day. No expensive equipment or barista skills are needed to enjoy a cafe-like taste in your own home.
Ingredients
- 60 ml Brewed espresso (or strong coffee)
- 150 ml Cold milk
- 1 glass Ice cubes (full handful)
- 1 tbsp Sugar syrup (or other sweetener)
Instructions
- 1Brew a strong coffee or double espresso and set aside to cool completely.
- 2Fill a tall glass to the brim with ice cubes.
- 3Pour the cooled coffee directly over the ice.
- 4Add sugar syrup or another favorite sweetener and stir gently.
- 5Top up with cold milk, pouring it slowly from the top to create aesthetic layers before the final stir.
Chef's Tips
- •For a frappé effect, you can mix all the ingredients in a blender with an ice-crushing option until a fluffy, thick foam forms.
- •If you don't want to dilute the drink with melting ice, freeze leftover coffee in ice cube trays and use them instead of regular water.
